Your Midlife & Menopause Specialist
Helen Stearns, DNP
As a woman navigating my own perimenopausal journey, I understand the unique changes and challenges that midlife can bring to women. I have witnessed the struggles of friends and women around me to get answers, appropriate care, and even just validation for their symptoms and concerns. This has led to a deep commitment to empowering, educating, and providing care for women going through the transitions of midlife and menopause.
While my formal work in healthcare began nearly 20 years ago (a journey that has taken me through diverse specialties, locations, and educational pathways), as a child, I was fascinated by medicine. I fondly remember enlisting my mom, a nurse, to bandage my (perfectly healthy) arm, poring over first aid books, and helping her provide minor care to neighborhood kids who came to her with scrapes, cuts, and various childhood ailments.
Always, even then, I had a strong sense of justice and a desire to advocate for the “underdog.” As I grew in age, maturity, and education, I became increasingly aware of the disparities and lack of equitable care and rights for women. Witnessing the hurts in the world deeply affected me, and I knew I was meant to help people heal. My own healing journey led me through rough paths of overcoming significant personal challenges, and navigating the complexities of leaving a restrictive, toxic environment.
These experiences instilled in me a deep understanding of resilience, courage, and the impact of individual empowerment in achieving well-being.

After many years’ experience providing care as a Registered Nurse in hospitals and various other medical settings, I graduated from the University of San Diego with my Doctorate in Nursing Practice, & dual-board certified in Adult/Gerontology and Family Practice Primary Care. I began my nurse practitioner career at a world-renowned sexual medicine clinic, which ignited my passion for treating women’s sexual and hormonal conditions. I encountered women of all ages who had spent years searching for answers and help, often feeling dismissed by medical providers. Long before it became a trending topic, I learned about the safety and effectiveness of hormone therapy for menopausal symptoms. For the first time, I gained knowledge about vaginal and sexual disorders and pain that could be effectively, and sometimes easily, treated. This experience fueled a fire in me that has only grown brighter over the last several years as I practiced as a geriatric primary care provider.
My own perimenopausal journey has been interesting. I became pregnant and gave birth to my beautiful, amazing daughter while in my 40s. This meant navigating not only perimenopausal symptoms but also pregnancy changes, postpartum hormones, and breastfeeding challenges. This personal experience led me to dive even deeper into the data on hormone fluctuations and what was happening within my own body. Additionally, I began hearing firsthand from my friends and co-workers about the struggles and changes they were experiencing during perimenopause and menopause.
I started this practice out of a deep passion to empower women to live WHOLE and THRIVE. Honestly, I never envisioned owning my own practice or being a business owner. But now? It feels absolutely right – like I am exactly where I am supposed to be. I am incredibly eager to educate and enable women, providing the highest level of care and information so they can experience the best quality of life in their relationships, their bodies, their minds and hearts, their workplaces, and their homes. My dream is for each of us to share with our mothers, our sisters, our daughters, our best friends, the power we have within ourselves to create positive change, both personally and in the world around us.

Helen's Top 10 Fun Facts
Fun Fact #1
My happy place is under the sea! I love scuba diving and have dived all over the world - from getting my certification in Thailand, to diving between two continental plates mid-winter in Iceland, and much more in between!
Fun Fact #2
My daughter is the great joy of my life! A fierce and happy 3 year old with gorgeous red hair which she gets from her Norwegian, Irish and Scottish ancestry!
Fun Fact #3
I have run 2 half-marathons and 1 full marathon. It’s safe to say that now I MUCH prefer a good brisk walk, and weight lifting!
Fun Fact #4
My favorite animals are DOGS. I own a large, somewhat neurotic, Australian shepherd mix named Buckley. He’s a big love-bug and adores playing ball, and shredding stuffies apart!
Fun Fact #5
I used to love cooking, but have since discovered my partner is a MUCH better chef (quite fabulous, actually) and now I have assumed the role of “vegetable chopper” or sous chef 🙂
Fun Fact #6
I grew up in a sheltered religious commune and knew little of pop culture at the time. I remain at a terrible disadvantage when it comes to trivia questions on music, artists, and TV from the 80’s or 90’s.
Fun Fact #7
One of my great passions in life is traveling the world. We started taking Sylvie internationally when she was just 4 months old. We believe that experiencing and honoring other cultures is a beautiful way of developing an enriched and informed worldview.
Fun Fact #8
My partner and I love to learn about, and sample craft beers - locally and around the world. Probably my all time favorite beer would be a Lambic, an old Belgian style beer brewed utilizing spontaneous fermentation from the wild yeasts and bacteria present in the air.
Fun Fact #9
Beneath all the science and medical interests, I have an artistic side that I would love to develop further. I love photography, especially travel or street photography, and art time with my daughter.
Fun Fact #10
I renew my energy through being in nature, but most especially alone time: reading, exercising, walking, taking pictures. Reading before sleep is my utmost happy time.
